This is just about getting angry at women for not knowing their place, not about caring about children outside of being a strawman argument to stroke outrage. When he is made responsible for the well being of children, he shows no interest in their care, just in asserting control.

The article says he wanted her to give birth to the baby and put it up for adoption but I wonder if he offered to raise the child himself as a single dad. “Why don’t you have the baby and put it up for adoption?” is a suggestion that still dodges any consequences on his part.

One of my few disappointments with the second season was not enough Carmen. It feels strange rooting for a character to be the victim of police brutality but I would like to see them do a story based on that part of Mt Fuji’s story, which came before the Rodney King incident... but with the show moving to Vegas, there

I think that’s currently true but a lot of that comes from how girls and women are socialized that femininity means being nurturing and putting other’s needs before yours. (Meanwhile, boys and men are taught that masculinity is found in expressing dominance and being selfish.)

You’re probably right. I was hoping they might try to figure out how to duplicate the quiet drama of Terrace House in countries outside of the US.

Ugh, the edit button won’t come up for me so I forgot to also say their past experience with abuse doesn’t excuse what they went on to do to others, either.

This development has me thinking about Junot Diaz who talked about the abuse he experienced and then we found out he had been guilty of sexual misconduct himself. It’s a sad reminder of the cycle of abuse and neither Argento or Diaz’s wrongdoings negates their own abuse.

I’ve been a fan of hers since the BBC America mockumentary series Almost Royal where Hogart and Ed Gamble play low-level aristocrats (they’re described at being like 30th in line for the crown, with the number changing every episode) who decide to travel to the US and experience what they think are very American

This is always a problem that comes up when representation is so rare, anyone who doesn’t see themselves is disappointed because their once-in-a-decade chance has come and passed. I remember how some Asian-Americans were angry with All-American Girl because Margaret Cho’s character was disrespectful and a bad role

I remember when I lived in the Bay Area there was a case of an immigrant family that accidentally cooked up some soup with poison mushrooms. It looked a lot like safe mushrooms that grew in their home country but it wasn’t. At least one of them died afterward, I don’t know if the rest of the family recovered. But

Yeah, that part is telling and another example of how he can’t see anyone as their own person. His children aren’t people but accessories so no one would say something about her because of her actions, it’s about trying to upset him.

I think Saved By the Bell only worked as daytime TV, whether that’s the Saturday mornings or as afternoon reruns... but nowadays with streaming I don’t see picking SBTB to watch on streaming. It was a show I used to watch when there was little better on but if I can choose between something like STTB and getting a

Perhaps your dad is telling you to check out Succession, or your boyfriend’s best friend

So far, I’m rooting for Rob Yang’s buff bod.

A writer who used to work in political journalism had some good insights in a Twitter thread:

Yeah, it’s like that one specific line to make the switch turn from ‘not racist’ to ‘racist.’ That way they can tell themselves being a good ‘not racist’ is as simple as learning not to say a specific word instead of learning about the history of racial oppression, the nuances of structural racism and listening to

This doesn’t look very good by the trailer but TPH is so good at expressions and I’m dying to see her use that skill in as the lead in a comedy.

Sadly, I remember not to long ago hearing a report on NPR about how Mexican politicians in the south regularly demonize Central American migrants. To make sure we got the irony, the report even talked to a woman who had things to say about those filthy migrants and who received money from a family member who was

If they did a survey like that there are so many ways to do it and, depending on what kind of study you do, so many ways to interpret the data you get or just push it towards a certain conclusion. Even if you’re trying to get an honest answer that’s hard and, sadly, a lot of people who comission that kind of study

And ABC stepping in, hoping to make the Oscars more apt for broadcast ratings will have to face a system that’s been in place for decades. No matter how they define “popular” movies they’ll very likely end up with a movie that was greenlit with the hope of making a lot of money once Oscar buzz comes in.
