I think what has given me pause in my former support fot the ACLU is the Milo case and the pushback it got from trans people on twitter who claim the ALCU decided not to help them. I think that’s a good time (along with the defense of the Cville rallies) to question their priorities. Everyone’s civil liberties matter

I wouldn’t have said that about Kohan a few years ago but OITNB and GLOW has convinced me that the problem with Weeds wasn’t Kohan but Showtime.

I dropped Scandal from regular viewing this year because I drop in and out of it and keeping up with Hulu’s “rotating five” gets exhausting and I eventually took six weeks before checking in. I’ll finish the current season when it shows up on Netflix.

I wish Britton were joining a show at a different network. Showtime seems to mismanage the shows it doesn’t cancel quickly. I’ll probably end up hoping this show gets the treatment United States of Tara got.

I agree that he sees them as trophies (remember when Bill Clinton met with Loretta Lynch and he couldn’t believe that a grandparent would have more to discuss about their grandchild than an obligatory “Yah, I love them”) but I think they probably mean most to him as shields from accusations of antisemitism.

I feel similarly. Sometimes she can be a kind of condescending and bigoted in an “NPR Liberal” way (I remember cringing through an interview with Sarah Paulson when the topic turned to Holland Taylor). Sometimes she’ll also get stuff wrong that is very frustrating if you’re more of a fan of the interview subject than

Maybe you could have spent a couple years paying attention to the actual news instead of expecting me to recap it for you, sea lion.

I too see a spider but it’s Charlotte wielding weapons at both sides.

If we get to pick the dictator can’t we demand someone like Angela Davis or Constance Wu instead?

Weeds got so terrible I avoided OITNB for a long time because of Kohan (and fate intervened when my Roku died in the middle of checking out the first ep). I finally got to watching it and it’s great and it doesn’t jump the shark the way Weeds did... at least it doesn’t in four seasons, which is a better success rate

That’s why they spent 8 years screaming “OMG, divisive dictator!” at every little thing Obama did (remember the sheer outrage when he expressed sympathy for Trayvon Martin’s family?). Now, every time they are deliberately decisive and anti-democratic they scream “But Obama did it first!” (when he didn’t they just

Yeah, I did appreciate that it worked out pretty nicely in the end. Too bad Butler never worked out the next book, she had some interesting ideas for it.

That’s such an amazing book but I think I wouldn’t be able to handle watching it until the real world stops feeling like a prequel to the Parable books.

Yeah, I’m reminded of Eileen Fulton (IIRC?) being physically assaulted by a stranger on the streets of NYC when her character was causing trouble on As the World Turns. It’s funny because Fulton can tell the story but sheesh.

I can totally understand that, I think I read Parable of the Talents more than a decade ago and the election was giving me anxiety-inspiring flashbacks.

I used to follow Snopes on Twitter so that I wouldn’t be surprised by the next bit of right wing bullshit but I had to give up and unfollow them because it was exhausting to see the outright bigotry they were debunking. Fake news creators were riling up these shitstains by telling them their every extreme fantasy was

Seriously. I teared up, too. I’ve been wanting to see Butler’s work get greater prominence and DuVernay seems like a great fit.

Butler’s work is amazing, but be prepared for some grim stuff. When she goes post-apocalyptic (like with the Lilth’s Brood series or, worse, Parable of the Sower) she goes all-in.

It’s not just HOW many people belive, it’s WHO...

For me it’s way too icy, a little bit gritty and doesn’t hold the air bubbles that makes ice cream luxurious.
