We should start a club. Not a funny club! More like a fraternal order of killjoys.
“Previously on...”
This is one of several recent AVClub articles that are just like the inevitable AI/ChatGPT-written articles that will soon dominate sites like this - having the language and syntax of a human writer but saying absolutely nothing.
I think it’s helpful not to think of stories like this as “setting back” the MeToo movement, but instead more realistically adjusting its expectations. Getting justice for sexual assault victims is always going to be a difficult, frustrating process, and not only because of misogyny or society’s willingness to dismiss…
“The red line”
As someone who quite liked but didn’t love season 3, this feels like the right move.
So it’s an HBO show about a bunch of people fighting over a throne, but it’s actually going to end before it gets terrible? What a novel approach.
I’m more excited for the sequel, Heroin Heron.
Well, thank god we have you to save us from the scourge of women oppressing us all with their filthy lies.
A fake composer featured in a faux-biopic claimed to train under a real composer in the film. The real composers family decided to roll with it and announce the character really did train under their father as a joke, despite the fact that this entire movie is completely fictional.
I mean, the actual worse of GTAIII, Vice City, and San Andreas are that each have at least one ridiculously fucked required mission that genuinely keep me from wanting to go back and replay them. Vice City and San Andreas both share those dog shit RC missions with control that was bad at the time. San Andreas, perhaps…
you could argue that izombie wasn’t a zombie show either. boring!
I also hate when DAs, who have the power and weight of the state behind them, complain about billable hours and big city lawyers.
George Romero’s classic zombie trilogy has always been about “who is the real monster?”. It’s a boring debate but yes TLOU is following the proud tradition of being a piece of zombie media that isn’t really about zombies.
Yeah no they’re zombies Druckmann. A zombie isn’t a just brand of fantastical monster, it’s a mindless husk of a human lumbering around and responding to animalistic urges. I don’t care that they aren’t pop cultures familiar zombies they’re still the lumbering around mindless monsters. I know this is a crappy example…
They aren’t zombies in universe. But this is, to all intents and purposes, a zombie apocalypse story in the same way that I Am Legend is. Physical attacks, infections, isolated survivors, paranoia, the fall of society - all the hallmarks are there.
Counter Point: Star Wars fucking blows. It’s nigh-unwatchable and has fostered a petulant man-child population, amplified by the existence of the Internet. This is compounded by a complete lack of original ideas in the franchise. Trolling, ala The Last Jedi, is not an original idea. The TV shows suck. The Mandalorian…
The absolute best they can do at this point is to move fifty years in the future and hand-wave away whether the sequel trilogy ever even happened. It’s unsalvageable.
If Andor showed up anything, I think it’s that there is an interesting in taking Star Wars in different directions, you could do the same with movies.
