Not a very ambitious show, that's for sure. 10 minutes of setup and we're into the weekly procedural already. It would have been nice if they'd taken a little more time to develop the intended arc of the show, but I guess it's just not that kind of show.

Give it time. Game of Thrones began the same way — focused on a subset of characters before expanding the narrative. You can't throw a dozen major plotlines at the audience from day one, you have to draw them in and hook them first.
It's really just setting the scene — you get to see the reset switch in action before it stops working.
