I think it is reasonable to check in once a week, but I also feel that it is important to not just assume that someone will know that it is “expected”. I think part of the problem that this mom has is that there is no agreed upon amount or time of communication set. Getting texts during class IS annoying. That

I totally agree. People do not like to hear that though. Humanity keeps making the same mistakes over and over again. We’ve seen great empires fall over time... Rome for one, but also even more recently with the British and Spanish Empires. I do not believe that Americans are inherently better than others

I got that when you said take them to the vet, for what it’s worth... :/

Exactly. I have said this elsewhere in the comments. Men don’t have protected paternity leave. Even men who DO want to take some time might not be able to.

I need to look more into the paper bc I think the type of job really matters too. You’re a lawyer, I’m a genetic counselor with paid benefits. We get paid vacation, sick days, FMLA, etc. but if either one of us was a per diem service worker, then all that goes out the window. Not only would you not get paid, but men’s

Full disclosure, I have not read the paper. But SeanMarks above also gave some more data. He indicated that only 1.9% of men were taking leave at all. So you’re looking at slightly higher than 1% took leave for boys and slightly less than 1% for girls.

I would imagine that most people would want to take some leave either maternal or paternal, if nothing other that you don’t have to go to work at first. (Maybe realizing how hard it is makes some of those folks want to go back to work!)

For me, it is that I spend a good amount of my time on pubmed for work and don’t always want to be reading scientific journals in my free time as well. His comment has piqued my interest though so I prob will read the journal article later.

Abysmally small for both groups. If the total of men taking some form of leave is only 1.9%. 😕

I should read this paper now. I am wondering what population they used. Only 17.7% of women taking any form of leave at all is really surprising to me. So I want to know breakdown of full time vs. part time workers (part timers being less likely to take leave), breakdown of women who hold service jobs vs. office jobs

This is excellent.

This was my interpretation as well. It was not a far leap.

Last season when Booth started gambling I stopped watching and haven’y gone back. I DVRed them though...

I think Olivia was referring to what the OP said about having to give it all away upon death not what the current laws are.

I’m 31 and in the same situation as you. Never any support from family. Husband comes from really supportive (both emotionally and financially). It is startling sometimes to see how we deal with situations differently. I am not totally distanced from my family. I see them a couple times a year and exchange Christmas

Yes! What I think is even weirder, is when a stranger gets in your same little wedge in the revolving door. That would have been way more suspect!

Apparently they were both entering a revolving door and he cut her off there by entering first.
