@Hotscot: I recommend it. It's awesome(ly bad).

@Lightice: That's really just an engineering problem. You don't even need to scan it- you can just quantum entangle each particle in it with a particle in your computer. Sure, that's science fiction, right now, but there's no reason it has to remain that way.

@Captain_Tripps: Stuff is stuff. But objects are a perception. Stuff exists. But the idea that a certain group of stuff has a unique identity is entirely in your head.

@Captain_Tripps: Well, now you're getting into the Theseus's Ship problem. If I were to put you into a replicator and have an exact duplicate pop out, that quite clearly isn't you in a very real sense. In another, however, it pretty clearly is you.

@Shinju001: You don't need to run two copies of the same brain and watch for divergence to determine if it's chaotic. We certainly can't take two Earths and check and see if weather is chaotic.

@Captain_Tripps: No, but if I take the physical state of your brain (and the parts of your consciousness that don't reside in your brain, like your endocrine system), and simulate that, that's pretty much "you", in any conventional sense.

@Captain_Tripps: So, set your simulation up as a mirror image of a physical system- ie, someone's brain. Voila, now it's someone.

@Lightice: Brain simulation, brain uploading? What's the difference? If you can simulate an arbitrary brain, you can simulate a specific brain too.

Give me a female volunteer and 9 months, and I can build a computer system capable of simulating a human brain.

@Captain_Tripps: Nobody wants to pay it, but everybody wants the benefits.

@Captain_Tripps: At the very least, it should be "Opt-Out" not "Opt-In". But even compulsory- it's little more than a tax.

@Captain_Tripps: ... I wasn't talking about funerals. I was talking about reliquaries.

I thought this episode was a bit of a step back- like they were actually trying to do something serious and missed. It was less camp than the first episode, and it really needs more camp.

@Captain_Tripps: Most people are also religious. Just because "most people" do something doesn't mean they are correct.

@Zinger314: Every other day? Why, good sir, I think you take liberties with this great man's legend.

"but it's degrading to put body parts on display in a public place"

@Mecharine: At the end, the only remaining two survivors of the civilization find a new planet to settle on. They call it "Earth", in honor of their lost civilization, and their initial settlement "Eden".

@Turbo_Sexophonic: Look, you haven't seen the video of your mother fucking a horse. It hasn't been made yet. For all you know, it could be the greatest film ever.

@Turbo_Sexophonic: And…what? Lucas thought the New Trilogy was a good idea, and look what that got us.

@Turbo_Sexophonic: When the idea is stupid, one doesn't need to wait for it to be filmed.
