I could have helped you with the rock problem. When Silverado's went to rear discs (2000 or so) they were notorious for picking up rocks. That sound became instantly recognizable. Easy DIY fix. When you first described the noise in your towing article it was the first thing I thought of.

I fully agree, just think about having the power/economy of todays modern engines in a vehicle that was 2/3 the size and 1/2 the weight. Our laws and safety requirements have added weight to modern vehicles faster than their size has increased.

TJ’s Do NOT have a “locking center Diff”. They have a two-speed transfer case that splits power between the front and rear drive axles when engaged.
