Sorry, my last post was kind of confusing. I'll be more specific. It doesn't matter which state you purchase the car in, rather the state you register the vehicle in. Most states collect the tax when you register the vehicle, not when the vehicle is purchased. Thus, purchasing the vehicle in a state without tax…
Legally, that is sales tax evasion. It became a big deal in the Midwest when many people would head to Montana to avoid tax on their motor home (which is a lot of tax)
Western Washington University made a V8 for their FSAE team years ago... 554cc only! (http://dot.etec.wwu.edu/fsae/viking30.…)
In minnesota, if the key is even inside the vehicle (not just the ignition) you can get a DWI. I know a friend that this happened to, now he tosses them just outside of his car before sleeping it off
Who does these drawings? They never cease to impress me.
What is this beautiful piece of machinery, and where the hell can I buy one!?
1 word: Motorcycle
A 660cc engine (especially turbocharged) should be able to easily, and safely, produce 70-80 HP with some longeviety. I have a 10 year old 600cc bike that produces 89HP
Is this why I can't get a Holden Ute here stateside?
I love my 1999 Pontiac Grand Am. Its got enough comfort for me, its got a v6 giving it enough get-up-and-go for agressive highway/freeway accelerations, and gets an average of 24 mpg. Its got 218k miles on it now, and I hope that it lasts me another 2-4 years. I'm hoping that someone will make a small(ish) car with…
Awww. Bummer. It was so convenient :(
Hey Matt, why don't full stories show up in my RSS Feed anymore? It used to be awesome to just click the Jalopnik RSS feed in Outlook while at work to get TMS, but today it was just the intro without any gears... What gives?
I'd argue that a first car in poor condition and a driver with little money (learning to do maintnence themselves) makes a good gearhead. My first car was a 1994 Chevrolet Lumina with 208,000 miles, broke down multiple times, but I refused to bring it to a shop.
No Backseat Driving. Whomever is behind the wheel is the driver, no input should be given unless asked for or the driver clearly has no idea where they are going.
The Lumina Euro was easily the greatest 'Super car' out there. It was also my first car :p
People rip on the 4L60E alot, I've never understood it. It could always be better but it I always found it to be acceptable for the application. Example for improvement: get rid of torque converter, add clutch, add user selectable gears, increase number of gears to 6.
PLEASE! I can't read all of the gears on my mobile if it isnt in the main post.
