I’m technically a developer, but not a game developer. My reasoning came from similar things I’ve read about in other games where you can trigger unused sprites under very specific circumstances.

Since the Tanooki suit can only be obtained in a handful of places, and near this slope was one of them, they probably found a bug if you did this and quickly fixed it by adding the sprite.
