I’m smitten with mine, but they are stupid expensive for what you get. I have had people offer me 15k for mine before, and though I wont sell for that, I’m also pretty sure it isnt worth that. I’ve had a 5 before, and you are correct, the 7 is loads better with the legroom. Some good specimens here in the Austin area

An 85 CJ-7. I got super lucky and picked up a low mileage one off a guy in Cali for 3 grand. Ive put about 20k miles on it in 2 years now running all over Texas. I really love the simplicity of it and the 258 is a smooth, smooth engine. I just have the soft top on and its pretty noisy, but a set of noise cancelling

True, however I would argue that a Mercedes from the 80's is also kind of a nightmare since Mercedes is always pushing the envelop in terms of electronics. They aren’t worried about long term reliability

I daily a 35 year old Jeep. I’ve replaced the shocks, waterpump and some of the ignition system. I’m not sure if there really is planned obsolescence in modern cars, but if my old brick on wheels can make it this long, surely a modern car can make it longer?

I’ve done it before, though that was out west and not up north. Its definitely not a cost saving move, but I really enjoy long drives across the country.

Oh theres risk still, for sure, and I wont be giving up my mask in public. Just less so than where I am in Austin right now.

Ditto! Southern Indiana, along the Illinois border. Big work here is the prison, the school, or the dwindling coalmines. Some really good work at a few car part manufacturers, and a coal burning power plant, but both of those are on the outs (We make automatic transmission bands, which will be obsolete with EVs).

I’m going to go to my parents for 2 weeks and work remotely. Austin to Indiana is a haul, but I’m going to drive my CJ-7 all the way up there instead of flying. Should be a good little roadtrip and will be nice to spend some quality time at home. They live way out in the country so it shouldnt be too bad in terms of

I started cutting out useless wires in my Jeep and it didnt take long for me to end up with more wires in the trash pile than are still in the Jeep. The old times were wild

Not sure how the VW is wired, but on my Jeep there a complete separation of the wires at the firewall. Tackle one side of the firewall first, getting all of the interior or exterior bits nailed down, and then after you drive for a while you can take off the other side of the harness and do it. Easy peasy.

This is where most of these projects break down. Mounting battery packs takes some doing, but its just brackets mostly. The motor and wiring is not too hard either. Getting an electric PS pump to turn a 1980s steering box is not trivial, nor is getting an air conditioning pump running. Likewise, every electrical

In Texas we have inspections, and I still pass them without my emissions stuff. My ‘85 had everything removed be the PO and all I had to do was put on a Cat to pass. Maybe its just California?

I took a set of these and modded them into some over the ear headphones to make a cheap set of radio headest for when I take long roadtrips with the top off the jeep. They sound great!

My assumption is that for $500 a lot of people are placing money down now to get in line, and will sell their spot in line/sell the truck to people who didnt put down soon enough,or want a truck faster. Happens in the aviation market a lot.

From Austin to Dallas then direct to Sydney. On the return flight the heater was broken on and it was about 90 degrees the whole flight.

And adjust your expectations. I know that I’m not getting entertainment, snacks, quiet passengers etc. When I fly spirit i put on my noise cancelling headphones and zone out. Unless I’m flying a long way (over 6 hours) I dont really have any need for more comforts. I flew Quantas to Australia from Austin and in that

I feel like thats most of the diehard dipshits. I grew up in Indiana and the amount of people that were diehard Notre Dame fans that didnt go there was near 100%

Technically speaking the software is not illegal. The use of said software is. Lots of countries have outlawed these types of businesses as anti-consumer, but some let them slide. CxCheats has a physical location and numerous employees. They make cheats for various games, so backing off of Warzone quickly means they

Good call on staying out of ATX. Bastrop is lovely. Commuting in the East/West directions is a lot easier than N/S as well. I-35 is hell.

I’m living in Austin right now, and dont let the news scare you off. At least here, theres plenty of caution being taken. The local grocery store chain HEB has been doing a knockout job taking care of safety. I’ve been cooped up in my apartment since April and I’m hangin in there.
