That’s wrong. CO is always present in car exhaust. Catalytic converters do not remove all of the CO from car exhaust which is why there is a non-zero emissions limit for all new cars. CO is the primary reason it is dangerous to run a car in an enclosed space.

That`s great, it starts with some flushed brakes, serpentines, injector clean - service writer’s never mean.

This is rough but, it’s the truth. It’s one thing to be writing about a subject you aren’t an expert in. It’s quite another to write about an incredibly stupid and naive thing you did, and try to tell a readership who for the most part are experts in the subject you’re writing about that it wasn’t stupid or naive.

The serpentine belt had a crack in it and needed replacing - Possibly legit, but this is a $20, 10-minute change in a parts store parking lot.

It sounds like you got ripped off. None of those things beside the brakes have anything to do with safety inspections. Why not flush the coolant yourself and change your own serpentine belt? This is Jalopnik after all.

Pulling through is Okay.  Parallel parking facing the wrong direction is NOT.  

As long as someone isn’t trying to pull into the spot on the other side it is totally fine.
