It’s free on PS+ this month if you have that. There is a story, lots of lore - though not all in game. Your character is called a “Guardian” - basically a resurrected space wizard with guns to fight the “darkness” and enemies of the last civilization.

Working my way through this now. I found the Gambit part to be easy. Just some lucky timing on my part. I’m taking a lot longer with the crucible precision kills...outgunned a lot by other gun types.
