I think another complication is that they’d have to enforce a pre-made composition. 2Tanks, 2 DPS and 2 Supports is a safe comp but isn’t always the best in all situations. So yeah you’d get to play your preferred role but then we’re at the whims of the developers to choose for us what the best composition is.

Also! The event map, Rialto, will be re-released after the event as a PVP payload escort map. While at Blizzard HQ earlier this week, I learned that Rialto was actually originally designed to be a payload map, rather than an event map.
