Because some revenue is better than none. What I think the article is getting at is that YouTube pays considerably less per stream than every other streaming service. I too collect about $0.004/stream on Spotify, et. al. but don’t even come close to that on YouTube.

I think the big thing here is that this is having a larger effect on musicians who are not affiliated with any sort of music company. As an unsigned musician who has music on YouTube/Spotify/iTunes/etc. the payouts are comically bad on a per-stream basis. I don’t have the volume of streams on YouTube that the Redditor…
