I think Jesse Eisenberg would win in zombies. He's always the more antisocial type, whereas Abed is just sweet and weird.

I would guess the point to the plague was to show how zombies aren't the only things you have to watch out for in a post-zombie-apocalyptic world. People can also die in other ways and then they turn into zombies, so double threat.
