My income range assumed she was working 10-15%, at most, of her available hours. Not sure how you define “booking percentage” but I went w/a very conservative estimate (i.e., far below 50%).

And what percentage of the rest were sex workers killed by clients or pimps? I’m not minimizing domestic violence at all, but a lot more women have male romantic partners than are sex workers.  You’re making a false equation.

I’m not sure statistics will back you up on that. Yes, women are at risk from domestic violence.  Have there been any blind studies comparing pregnant prostitutes with pregnant women who have another means of supporting their family?

So — assuming you’re female and straight — if your choice was an hour in a hotel room with your established romantic partner, or an hour in a hotel room with a random guy, you’d pick the random guy because statistics? This ... doesn’t seem like a very good safety tip.

I think there is a good point being made in this comment — that a well paid, high profile sex worker who has the means to take safeguards to ensure her own personal safety (to the point that she has the ability to turn down clients if something does not feel right to her — up to and including STD testing in advance)

I’m sorry, but that’s hooey. My chances of being beaten, raped and murdered sitting here sober on my couch aren’t quite zero, but they’re a lot closer to it than if I went and took my clothes off with a guy I don’t know. You may be right that prostitutes are safer than single women going home with random guys, but I’d

You keep bringing up worker exploitation at places like Amazon - yet you think when sex is being sold for profit suddenly capitalism is a coddling protector?

Normalizing prostitution and presenting it as a career women should pursue leads to the attitudes that allow women to be exploited. It tells readers to assume the women in brothels, in the red light districts, etc are all happy and not to question the brand of feminism that allows men to get rich off our “liberation.”

points? plural? You made one point that was a knee jerk reaction to something you read. She doesn’t think that sex work is that great a career choice and she isn’t going to throw a party for sex workers because she is certain there is something else that sex workers can share with the world. That isn’t exactly a

Am I supposed to feel shamed because I care about the exploitation of women? You should feel shamed women are so low on your priority list.

I am vocal because I am disgusted the patriarchy is selling women this lie that allowing men unfettered access to their bodies is liberation and “good feminism.” Looking at

I mean, there is a difference between having a opinions and judging another woman’s decisions, and trying to outright stop women from making choices you disagree with.

Ms. Holloway seems like an interesting and well-spoken person but it’s silly to present her as a “typical sex worker.”

“I don’t have the luxury or privilege of not working while pregnant”

This seems awfully risky to me, and I’m not totally clear on why she didn’t step it back to stripping/modeling/cam work until the baby comes. Every prostitute is one bad night away from being beaten, raped or murdered, and it’s one thing to take that risk for yourself and another to impose it on an unborn child.

I’m with you.  It’s strange how people need to tie themselves into philosophical knots to say that it is totally normal and safe to have sex with multiple people while pregnant.  That’s not safe.  It’s not okay.  And I’m sad for this woman that she needs to keep selling her body while pregnant.

I’m a feminist and I support reproductive rights and I don’t think that sex work, or prostitution, is an awesome career choice that we should all celebrate. No. No No. I’m in favor of whatever social services can make sex workers safe and preserve their health. I will advocate for all the girls and women who deal in

What?

Pregnancy fetish =/= pedophilia, bro. Chill.

since they’re merely programmed to be picky

Most of this article I have a reaction of just, ”meh, whatever.” People can do whatever perverted things they want as long as it’s legal and non-harmful without any shaming or judgement from me. Some people fuck their cars. Cool. Good for them. Doesn’t bother me.
