Because in general, male athletes tend to be faster and stronger than female athletes thanks in no small part to hormones. Yes, there are exceptions, but for the most part this is the rule. I say this as a female former competitive distance runner.

You are a) confusing sex with gender, and b) missing the point that Semenya is intersex, not trans.

Compare these times and tell me they’d be fair to integrate:

In a perfect world, yes, we could do that. But a man and a woman of equal weight and height are not equal in terms of strength, speed, power, endurance, or durability. Our physiological differences go straight down to bone density differences.

Semenya has functioning testicles and unless you do as well your testosterone level is nowhere near the upper limit

Look at the huge differences between the transgender girls and “normal” girls. How can anyone say that testosterone doesn’t make a difference? How is this fair to the other girls who are competing with athletes who have a hormonal/structural advantage? 

That goes in the same poor analogy bin as “Let’s go a step further and let people marry animals”. Taking your argument to a real conclusion would mean men and women compete together since it is just “natural physical attributes” that differ in the sexes.

If you want to have a women’s only category, you need to define who can enter it. How people self-identify isn’t going to cut it - there’s too much many, fame, scholarship opportunity etc. on the line.
