I mean, I agree with you somewhat. But, if it’s just words, then you gotta let it go. As someone that’s been in a fair amount of fights, fighting over some words being said is just not worth it. Now if they put hands on your spouse, open up a can.

Sometimes just walking aggravates the combatant. It is how you leave that determines how it will end, most times. Just dismissing the person many times enrages them, to be just cut off too easily. Dismissal with turning your back to them can lead to them jacking you unguarded.
