Seconding the recommendations of the others. I just want to add the less glossy documentary “Paris is Burning”. It gives you a look at the roots of drag, including a lot of stuff that’s standard on RuPaul’s Drag Race (balls, reading, realness, etc.).

Glad I’m not the only one who noticed that ridiculous woo-woo flute music in Yi Tien Cho’s scenes. I actually like Gary Young’s performance; I think he made the best of the weird “I’m gonna give back story, look at meeeee” moment. I could also interpret his throwing the papers overboard as his way of taking advantage…
