This is going to be great. Just look at the UK in the 60s/70s to see how well protectionism works for the domestic car industry. Then one day the floodgates of imports open up again and the whole domestic scene goes down the tubes. Competition is good, provided we maintain a semi-level playing field among competitors…
Or do they? Tariffs should encourage customers to by home built. If they do so there is nothing passed onto them. People who chose do buy foreign anyway maybe can afford it anyway (though I’m not advocating protectionism at all. I think it hurts more people than it helps people).
