@ravenarose: That's really too bad—I can imagine that's really uncomfortable. Your experience sound quite different from mine, though—with few exceptions, I've found people very responsive to my occasional requests on planes.

@superstarbird: It's amazing how far a little courtesy goes!
This is a jerky thing to do. The person who purchased that seat in front of you paid for a seat that reclines, just as you did. I completely get the desire to have a little space, but taking this kind of approach—depriving the person in front of you to privilege your own desires—is rude at best.
Bugmenot used to be better several years ago, but now most of the logins listed there are banned/don't work. I haven't found it useful in a long time—maybe others have had a different experience.
@cmart2112: Well, I still use perspective and reason on vacation, so I'm not sure that would help. :)
@Bimmer: This is ridiculous. First of all, the president basically works seven days a week—meaning you probably get an extra 100 days of vacation more than he does. Second, the president is often attending to work-related matters while on "vacation". Third, the last three Democratic presidents—Obama, Clinton, and…
@don7: OK, I see. That all fits in with basic cordiality as well. Thanks!
@arod: Makes sense—thanks!
This is an interesting idea, and seems like it would work very well in the right situation. The key is actually having something better with which to counter. I always find it extremely helpful when someone can say, "I don't like what you've offered; what I'd like better is [x]." This is so much better than, "I…
@JRock: Please, please, no "complaint sandwiches". This is not effective. Your real issue—the complaint—often gets lost in the mix. This is also true when giving negative feedback to others. Sandwiching negative feedback in the middle of two compliments just muddies the water and makes the person wonder where they…
@Hasteur: I'm always reading a bunch of books at once. Right now: 1491 by Charles Mann; Traitor to His Class by H.W. Brands (an FDR bio); Pride and Prejudice and Zombies by Seth Grahame-Smith (and Jane Austen); A World Lit Only By Fire by William Manchester; and Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins. I'm sure all the others…
@psychiccheese: If you are just getting into photography and don't plan on it being a really big part of your life, I wouldn't plan on using old lenses, regardless of whether or not they are compatible with your new camera body. Many or most will not autofocus, and there may be other compatibility issues. I always…
Now that phone calls are integrated into Gmail, I'm considering making a few more calls from the computer. I've done this only rarely before, and one problem I'm encountering is that I have to unplug my speakers in order to plug my headset (with a plug for the headphones and another for the microphone) into the back…
Working in a coffee shop doesn't do it for me.
@AgentSmithAndWeston: Sounds like you have your head on straight. Good luck in college! Make sure to look more than one place before investing your money—you seem like the kind of person who is willing to put in the work to make an informed decision. Enjoy your time in school!
@Amit Pitaru / Plantly: Hi Amit, thanks for the reply. I understand the approach you've taken and I can see how it would be attractive to many people. To others, it will be nice to be able to do everything in one spot, as GoalMine appears to do. It seems to me that both solutions (and surely many others) will have…
For many people, investing is an almost unmanageably complicated process—the vocabulary alone can be daunting, let alone determining researching different fund options, reading prospectuses, getting sound financial advice, etc. Plantly looks like it takes care of some of that.
@Raygan: Why do you care if people use their expensive cameras primarily for taking pictures of the events that are most important in their lives? Seems to make sense to me...
Most of the the article says seems logical to me. But this doesn't necessarily apply to all college rankings, in my opinion.
@farcedude: First, definitely make sure you are seeing a GOOD professional counselor, and potentially someone who can prescribe medication if necessary.
