I wont deny that these people work hard and in difficult conditions. But the job itself requires no skills and is easily replaced. Investing in a degree or acquiring skills SHOULD net you higher pay, even if the work may be much less labor intensive.
Seriously FUCK THESE PEOPLE. You should not make 35k a year serving fast food. A lot of people make barely that who have college degrees and are in, excuse the term, "real jobs". In fact that was exactly the salary of my first post college job working IT at a major media company.
I don't like auto-gratuity either. I understand on large parties splitting a check because ensuring the wait staff gets an adequate tip can be tough, but on a normal dining experience I feel like I should be allowed to determine how small or large of a tip I want to give.
