"...they don't even bother with political ads" - isn't that awesome? Every time I hear a news story about people in swing states being flooded with ads I thank my lucky stars.

Hell yes - I signed that petition and donated to the cause (even though I'm broke). It's so gratifying to see this bill pass. Chipping away at hate and inequality we are. Hurray California!
I think the faux fur is similarly problematic in that it promotes the idea of fur, but less so because it's usually pretty clear it's not real. I guess I think it's such an uphill battle to reduce the amount of fur being produced that every little bit I can do is necessary.
Me too. Seems like $80 is the norm in LA. Then one day I saw a YouTube video of a teenaged girl cutting her own hair into a multi-layered style. A couple hours and several other videos later and I was in the bathroom cutting my own hair. That was a year ago, and I've gotten pretty good at it.
Since you said you were wondering how people feel about vintage fur....I'm not really for it because of the reason you stated - reinforcing the use of fur for fashion. Wearing fur sends a message to others that it's acceptable and normal. Vintage garments already have been put to use, so I don't think it's a waste to…
Shwing!
Morning Zoo shows are always so pathetic and atrocious. When I first moved to LA 10 years ago there was a morning show with Danny Bonaduce, who's a wreck, and two asshats. Bonaduce was easily the most likable person of the three - which says a lot for someone who coined the word "gaysian".
Win! Clearly, the odds of that are much greater.
A size 12 in Marilyn's time was the equivalent to a size 6-8 now - thanks to the magic of vanity sizing. Even in the past 20 years women's clothing has been re-sized dramatically. I wear an 8 now, but can't get into some of the size 12 stuff I used to wear in the early 90's.
I'm kind of uncomfortable with this level of dissecting/explaining her weight history and speculating as to why she gained the weight - her schedule made her thin, then it made her gain weight, then there's the childhood bulimia to consider, etc. It boarders on apology, to me.
I give her the benefit of the doubt. That doesn't mean I'm not open to the possibility that she knew what she was doing was offensive. But there's no reason to insist that just because the information is out there everybody should aware of it. There's a lot of information on a lot of subjects "out there", and people…
I'm not agreeing with the "almost every boy" part of your comment, but I have to say that while I was reading Lindy's post I kept thinking about an article I read in the LA Times about penile cancer research. The study was done in Brazil and they had a control group of men and a group of men with penile cancer. The…
I feel like most chain restaurants offer either super high-cal options, or terrible tasting, super low-cal options. Have you ever tried the light breakfast options at IHOP? The egg substitute is gross, and the turkey bacon is ok but doesn't satisfy you bacon cravings. I'd rather just order toast with butter.
They've had that rule here in LA for a while. Wait until you see the calorie counts at Starbucks. They started selling mini versions of their muffins, bagels and scones because their regular ones have like 350-600 calories. And here I thought a muffin and latte was a reasonable breakfast - turns out I'm eating like…
Vanity Fair is the magazine that gives us a headache every year with their ensemble photos of young, mostly white actresses, aka: the Hollywood Cover. I'm not expecting much of them at this point.
Her front leg is smaller and lighter looking and the edges look weird.
How can your boss not be cool if he let's you read blogs at work? I can't even check my personal email at work let alone go on a Gawker site....and, yes, I'm off today.
I agree about the need for a more nuanced discussion - we rarely get that on Jezebel when the subject is abortion. But I don't know if I agree that she knew the risks. It's possible that she didn't know very much about the drugs, or about abortions in general since she didn't have a computer, and she didn't purchase…
Thank you - I was hoping that someone would point out how ironic his Hobbit analogy was.
