It's been quite a few episodes since we've had a B-story though. The first two episodes were probably the only episodes that had blatant B-stories ("Clown in the Dumps" and "The Wreck of the Relationship")

They never specifically said he was King Toot though. Could've just been an employee.
Yeah I'm pretty much the same as you. I've been watching since around 1994, so why stop now? I've got a good thing going.
Not sure if it's a coincidence, but the episodes that have Matt Selman credited as showrunner alongside Al Jean seem to be the much better episodes.
The funeral of a character we've never seen really did feel like a quick way to back out of killing off a major character now that we've lost Edna, but I guess it seems like the episode was always intended to feature a funeral, even if it wasn't for a major character.
I thought it was good, not great, but I got a fair few laughs from it.
Apart from the connection issues it suffers from, I beg to differ. I'm hooked on it!

Also, when I heard about this episode, I was like "how the fuck has there never been a legit Cruise episode of The Simpsons?"
Definitely agree! His episodes have been top notch.
