Friendly reminder the Group C/Group 5 series is already sorted and partially BOP’d. Just sayin’...

Eh, people buy cars because they get some kind of intrinsic value out of them that exceeds the initial monetary cost (no one would buy a new car otherwise, like you said it’s a terrible investment). It’s obviously not smart to spend all your income on cars but there’s plenty of people out there that are willing to Read more

Huh, TIL. Actually going to have to learn a whole lot more because I called the guy and agreed to buy it about 15min ago, will be picking it up this weekend! Again I can’t express enough thanks for your help with all this man, Oppo’s such an awesome community. You ever come through Indianapolis let me know, I owe you Read more

Hmmm interesting, I never even bothered to check for cruise control myself. The guy at Mazda said that because they purge their VIN records every seven years or so he couldn’t get a full options list for the car but assumed that it was a zero-option car based off the things it didn’t have (door tweeters, mudguards, Read more

The car felt perfectly fine on the short test drive I did, I’m just planning on keeping this car basically forever so I’m trying to think extremely long-term here, like 100k miles or more from now. I thought there was someone here on Oppo (thought it was you, might be someone else) who had a bunch of engines problems Read more

Yep, it’s a base with no options whatsoever, not even cruise control. The bigger issue is that when I called the owner to let him know we got to talking and I found out he either didn’t remember if he put premium in the car or alternated tanks between 87 and 93 (he changed his story so that sketched me out). From the Read more

Well that’s horrifying. Is it his only car? I have my Focus as a spare for really heavy weather but that's kinda making me reconsider driving it in the winter at all.

Thanks for the input man, will definitely have to get some practice in between now and winter. I’m in Indiana so our weather isn’t nearly as terrible as Canada’s so hopefully I won’t need too often lol.

Will do, hopefully it works considering the freaking service manager told the seller he could probably get a few grand more for it lol. I don’t think the price of a Torsen would be unreasonable though, the seller seems cool so I doubt he’ll play hardball too much.

I’ll have to do that then, really interested to know what the car is now. It passed the PPI with flying colors (the service manager was amazed how well-kept it was and ) so I’m not concerned about that, I’d just like to know exactly what I’m buying. If anything it might be a good thing because I might be able to get Read more

Hmmm, is there any way you can tell from the VIN what options the car might have on it? The guy selling it was very adamant it was an LS so now I'm kind of sketched out.

I was definitely planning on getting to know the miata before taking it out regularly in bad weather, there’s a huge parking lot about a half-mile from my house I used to learn how the Focus handles bad weather and I’m planning on doing the same if I get the Miata. We also have a 2004 Mazda3 so I know how bad early Read more

Right, it seems more like a psychological, peace of mind kind of thing than a physical impossibility. The guy I’m selling the car is an older guy who’s lived his whole life in Chicago and was telling me all kinds of stories about driving old Camaros and Corvettes in like four inches of snow with no issues and thought Read more

Definitely the plan, our family has an 04 3 so I'm very familiar with Mazdas' tendency to dissolve into orange dust lol.

That’s pretty much what I was planning on doing, figure a tiny light car with good tires wouldn’t need ABS unless you really screw up. Still kinda threw me a car from 2003 wouldnt have it as standard. Read more

How can a whole fest be cancelled after it starts? All the cancelled fests I’ve ever seen have collapsed way beforehand.

Oh awesome then, I was worried they were something you'd constantly have to be on the lookout for. Thanks again man, now I got a whole list of stuff to look for and ask about. Seriously, I appreciate it.

D you know if those sensors tend to be wear items that need periodic replacement or if track use/hot climate/heavy use accelerates their failure? The forums seem to be kind of split on it. The car I’m looking at tomorrow is a 2003 with 60k miles for reference.

Dude thanks for all the info, I had no idea they changed so much from year to year. Performance is kind of secondary to reliability in my search so that’s why I’m concerned if stuff starts falling out of my diff lol. I’ve only heard good things about NB2s so any potential problem areas are always extremely helpful to Read more

Yeqh I just did a little research on the Fuji, that’s kind of concerning. Is it as common a problem as the forums make it seem like? The Torsen might be a good call in that case.
