Valium and Oxycontin makes one a transphobe in the same way that Ambien makes one a racist.

Not only thay, but in suggesting Ellie would have wanted to sacrifice herself, they suggest a child of that age can give informed consent to being murdered. I’m not sure many adults can give that, let alone one so young.

Oh damn, are you saying that a TV show known for mixing episodic and serialized narratives that is only 3 episodes into its current season didn’t answer all of your questions about the plot and character arcs of this season? That’s so weird, surely no other TV show has ever done that. I swear to god, no one on the

I disagree with the take but I don’t see what “its an adaptation to a new medium” has anything to do with this?

“the people of russia aren’t your enemy, and to prove that, we hacked you, stole your stuff, and are now blackmailing you
well done hackers. Way to convince them that you shouldn’t be punished for the actions of your country.

If Marlene and the Fireflies are so certain this is what Ellie would want... they could fucking ask her.

1. Avatar and Top Gun never had a chance to win the Oscar for Best Picture, and if you are a pop culture writer who legitimately thought they did, you need to do some serious consideration of how you approach your field. There was no glimmer of hope ever.

Exactly. Joel should’ve just said “Then why didn’t you fucking ask her?!” At least Cannibal David gave her a choice at first.

To me, the clear insanity of the Fireflies’ plan was reason enough for Joel to take Ellie, if only to get them to pump the brakes on “the plan” to flesh it out a bit more. Humanity has been dealing with cordyceps for 20 years. Why does Ellie need to go into surgery minutes or hours after they find her? Why can’t they

I feel torn, on the one hand: ACAB forever. On the other, if anyone is going to get shot at a traffic stop then one of these guys... y’know.

THANK YOU. I screamed “What about a biopsy??” at least 3 times. lol

My 1st thought were “why are you telling the guy who was just able to singlehandedly get her across the country, thus has been in and can get out of some serious shit, the details to your “Well it will kill her, but we have this working theory on what is going on with her that might be right, might not, but hey we’ll

She doesn’t have agency with the fireflies either. They were gonna do the surgery without ever waking her up. That’s why in the game she doesn’t even wake up until shes in the car with Joel driving away. Also in the game if you collect the tapes and listen to the doctors argue they weren’t even 100% sure the

“and it isn’t his decision to make.”

Well ok, that’s fine, definitely contrary to medical ethics in pretty much the entire civilized world. But I get it, you’re Hawkeye in that episode of MASH, performing unnecessary surgery on an officer to stop him getting men killed. ( https://mash.fandom.com/wiki/Preventative_Medicine_(TV_series_episode) )

Feel like the discussion around the ending incorrectly centers on Joel’s actions when the focal point is actually supposed to be Ellie and her agency. Back in episode six Joel tells Ellie “You deserve a choice.” He was talking specifically about who takes her to the hospital but the show overall wants us to grapple

But it’s also not guaranteed to actually work that’s the other side of it. They don’t actually know if they can even make a cure (specially in the show where scientists said multiple times they’ve said you cannot cure it) so they could kill her and then nothing works so they’ve just killed a kid for nothing

You say that but if it was your daughter or son then the math wouldn’t be so simple. Not saying Joel was in the right but being a dad and having to see someone he now considers to be his child those emotions take over

It isn’t right to save one person at the cost of not curing millions.

When did Ellie give her consent? She never did that in the game and I don’t recall her doing it in this last episode. That renders all this discourse rather irrelevant. Both the Firelies and Joel robbed Ellie of any say in the matter. If they HAD done that perhaps things wouldn’t have gone down the way they did.
