If she spent a few months learning from real Elders, not plastic shamans, and had their permission I would be on board. Just picking the skin walker stories reeks of colonial bullshit.

Uh, this is pretty much the equivalent of saying that native representation in movies either doesn’t exist or can only be Johnny Depp playing Tonto.

She could have always used the actual native american myths and incorporated them into the story. What she did was take the real myths and change them to fit within her world, saying “this is what actually happened”. I’m sure nobody would have had any problems if she had portrayed them accurately.

Literally all she had to do was contact Native Americans and ask them. Heck, even collaborate with an NA fantasy writer!
