the Ouija board sessions story is like a movie producer said “a Harmony Korin movie, but make it horror.” is it just me?

the humblebrags about being popular and troublemakers etc had me picturing a Harmony Korin movie, but make it horror.

Came here for this. Huge leap of reasoning to go from “star-69 used to exist” to “call came from inside the house”

The ones that turn out to be humans with ill intent scare me far more than the ghosts. See: the farmhand one and the Cincinnati apartment one from recent years.

After going back on forth on whether to submit, I finally decided to just go for it but was too late for this year. Here is my scary story, and it’s a whole lot truer than the thrift store one!

Preeeeeach. You can always tell. Oh DID he confess to the murder in front of a stranger and the girl’s close relative? Cool. Totally plausible.

Yeah the thrift store story is not real. It’s a moderately well written short story but...not real. I wish people would stop treating this as a fiction submission contest, I only want that real shit!

Um, excuse me, our Lord and Savior rescued her from a demonic ouija cult.  Show some respect!

The thrift store one was written straight out of 1980's Halloween episode of Growing Pains.  I would’ve eaten that shit up as a child.

“So this guy sees my petite frame and stunning fit and confesses to a murder. What a haul! And on top of that I got a free sandwich. Welp back to etsy’n hum de dum de dum de dum.”

I didn’t understand the phone clapping one. That seems like an enormous leap to say that the call came from inside the house. Prank calls were extremely common in the 80s and 90s. It’s so much more likely that this was just a coincidence that the prank call’s content matched what she was doing at the time, than it is

I’m disappointed by how many of these are obviously fake this year :(

HAHAHAHAHA! Best comment.

I’m surprised the Franny one was picked. It’s so obviously fake.

My thought too.

The thrift store story is so obviously fiction. So obviously self glorifying fanfic (egofic?). There were better, more believable stories.

I didn't believe the thrift store story at all. It seems like complete fiction.

The scariest thing about the ouija board story is that a Chick Tract gained enough sentience to write it!

Crawlspace man freaked me out the most and has me hearing things in my own house now. I made my dog come inside to keep me company/for protection and since she’s currently enjoying a power nap by the heating vent I think we’re fine but boy that one gave me the heebie jeebies. I love scary story season on Jezebel!

Just a friendly PSA: Civil War battlefields are all haunted. Visit at your own risk!
