The issue maybe more industry wide than we think. When the RX-8 came out in 2003, people were complaining about low dyno numbers. For a car that supposedly put out 238 HP at the flywheel, people were only getting 170 or so on dynos, nearly a 30% power train loss??

(One question, though — did no one ever dyno these cars just to check the HP? Because it would seem it would kick into the ‘clean’ mode, with less power, whenever it was on a dyno of any kind. We’ll have to look into that.)
