Liked this Chilton character so much, I could not bear to watch him being tortured, as I knew actor Raul Esparza would make it more believable than I wanted to see. Fortunately, I found a site that has TV Show Scripts, and read the last two episodes before watching them.

Sorry if I don't see a lot of consistency or logic in this show. But one gets used to it….

Like your write-up, Sweet Caroline!

With Chilton gone, the show lacks humanity to relate to. (Vainity and self-importance are very human qualities. Everyone else doesn't seem to care who they put in the line of fire- co-workers, friends, family. (Will: "Hey honey, I'm tracking a serial killer, be home in a few days." What could possibly go wrong?

I read the script, then all the reviews- I haven't seen it yet. I will watch the end and then go back. Chilton was the only reason I continued to watch the show.

In interviews, Esparza said when he read how they wanted to portray him- as a complete sleeze- he asked if they could make his character more nuanced. He is the only reason I started watching the show. (I have seen every screen version of Hannibal Lecter.) I found the artistic, extreme violence revolting. Then I saw

You're right. Chilton never was, was never going to be, one of "the cool kids," no matter what he did. (Very well-written, Xel'lotath!)

He still gets to write a book, fame is important to him.

The lesson Chilton should have learned is that none of these people are your friends. Which is the same thing the others should have learned…

Yes, get rid of him, as he's the only character who isn't one of "the cool kids." Chilton almost vomits when Hannibal guts/arranges two agents in his home, where everyone else academically detached and more than willing to *repeatedly* put love ones, co-workers and family right in the line of fire.

Would have made it too hard to show Will not having the courage to look at him when Chilton told him he knew he'd been set up. Probably for the same reason Chilton didn't get a body cam or even a tracking device.

Chilton is the *most* likable character on the show, because he doesn't have a clinical fascination with violence, it repulses him. With him out of the picture, there is no one I have any sympathy for.
