The GS’s current problem is the fact that there’s nothing between the GS350 and GS-F. The competitors all offer something to cover the spread, such as the Vsport, M-line, low-engine AMG, S-Line, etc. Lexus however, goes from 306hp V6 to nearly 500hp V8 with nothing in the middle.

Intersting rumor. The GS has, not always, but many times, been the odd-man-out Lexus. The 1G GS was straight-up anonymous. Interesting enough in terms of look to get you to wonder what it was, but not enough to make you remember it. Then I remember when car mags fell in love with the 2G GS with its 400/430 V8 option,

It’s all red meat blatherings for his true-believer base. Many of them are such authoritarian sadist wannabes that they will eat up anything that sounds like him being “strong”. Strong men don’t have to be policy wonks; in fact, they probably think it’s better he isn’t, because if he was, that would mean too much book

Title of The Day

I can’t say under any scenario where I’m so stoned and/or drunk out of my gourd that, when asked to create a custom camper vehicle, I’d come up with a 1940 Ford with a 1950s short camper grafted on the back powered by a 1980s GM OHV inline-4 wearing 00 VW wheels and sporting 80s GM interior bits.

I agree, the car is now worth more than $11.5k, so money well spent. $8.5k for an overhaul resto of a top-tier 90s GT is not a lot to ask, considering the fortunes some custom cars have dumped into them.

Still hard to believe there’s just a 3.0 V6 in there.

Stop wrecking exotics I deserve more than he does.

Eh, the SVX was obscure when it was new, and its HP level was at the base of the others, so I don’t think it counts so much. A Decent looker and quirky for sure, but it will never reach the recognition of even the 3000GT.

All of these, and add the fact that the 3000GT seemed to live mostly off its lower trim(s). There were so many non-VR4 cars that I do agree the lower trims hurt the sales of the higher-end ones, and ultimately the historical perception of the car as a whole.

Ya, I remember test driving a cherry white 1990 Prelude Si many years ago, and was pretty blown away it had 4WS. I had never known that until driving one.

Thanks for the write-up on this. I had heard somewhere that the Mclaren engines were Nissan-based, but not that the V8 was from the R390. Surprisingly, heretofore it’s been a little difficult to divine the pedigree of this engine/design, and this article sums it up nicely.

V/O may be selling beige rentals, but it’s not like there aren’t plenty of those already from other brands. The range of logos available for purchase in Europe is pretty staggering when one considers that all/most of the brands that sell in the US can be added to:

Not to discount the impact of the European market, but there are a hell of a lot more up-n-coming buyers in China and India, and GM is stronger in China than Ford is.

Hard-core conservatives have increasingly been on this tack for decades. Back in the 60s it was only the John Birch society crazies that saw everything in this way. But since the Religious Right in the early 70s, things have only continued to tack that direction, and everything has come to a head in the last 4

No kidding. As the shop owner it goes without saying that he should know better. Usually it’s the low-level people who do this. Maybe the workers will get lucky and someone will buy up the business and change the name. But I can understand if that doesn’t happen.

Wrong city.

And a few weeks ago I watched a 1-hour documentary about the Sampoong mall collapse in South Korea in the 1990s. Similar story, corners were cut to keep costs down. The breathtaking aspect of it was the company in charge of the project had also been in charge of countless skyscraper projects around the country. The

Ya, I’m weirded out by that too. And he said “used to” which likely means during a time where there was no Internet, laptops were not ubiquitous, and you had to be in the office to work. My mechanic would have offered to have one of the staff bus me somewhere within 30 minutes, let alone the entirety of their daily

I was going to post this exact thing. The One above seems like an impressive float...until you see the Russian Krocodil do it.
