I have a question about Interstellar: when they kept getting status reports back from the water planet saying “everything’s okay” why didn’t they realize that the contents of the message were exactly the same every single time, including the timestamp that indicated when it was sent?

A deferred deal generally means the person must not commit any other crimes for a period of time before the charge is expunged. His lawyer is spinning this as an exoneration, which it is not.
