Edge of Tommorow is well executed fluff.
F&F is badly executed fluff.

Edge of Tommorow ( I know people keep on bringing it up) is a great example of a fun summer popcorn-and-soda romp that is still based on character and plot without going overboard on rampant stupidity and macho posturing.

But there are NO stakes to it whatsoever! And now we know that Dom can fly cars and jump from skyscraper to skyscraper so there's barely any reason to care, since nothing will make any difference.

That's kind of his appeal and why I find him so fascinating. Never before has such technical virtuosity and physical bravura has been invested in making such dumb movies. I still kind of find them fun so I don't mind.

But they ALL look the same! Even the Marvel movies. Too many explosions in the 3rd act and overuse of green screen/CGI. Everything looks like a video game.

I'll agree with you on TRANS 2. Rest of them are just silly, inoffensive kiddie movie/toy commercials that get wayyy more shat on than they deserve.

Please feel free to educate me on the Cinematic virility of Vin Diesel catching Michelle Rodriguez in Mid air while jumping off a collision.

That's you opinion and I respect that. To me, they're still the same thing.

Even if you say that one is better than the other, you still have to admit that they cater to the same demographic.

The 'Turn your brain off ' argument shouldn't really hold water in this day and age. A film should strive to be both fun AND smart. Why can't it be both? We need more movies like 'Blade Runner' , '2001' and 'Lawrence of Arabia' instead of constant lowest common denominator superhero/popcorn/ Expendables nonsense.

OH HEY LOOK , the 'stupid' franchise that gets a pass from critics! Meanwhile everyone crucifies 'Transformers' .Even though it's the exact same thing.

Not to mention the incredible masterpiece this year that is 'SEVENTH SON'. He's a shoo-in this year for sure.

He's terrific in that role. In fact, he steals the entire movie.

TRUE LIES is one of the best action films of the 90's. The scale and scope is just mind boggling and the setpieces put most action films today to SHAME. What are you talking about??
