Thank goodness that even though the future in TD2 is bleak, that there is a ray of politically correct sunshine.
I would love to ask him all about it, but EA/BioWare declined my requests for an interview with him or anyone else on the leadership team.
But the emerging truth from all of them, and your book, is that the basic structure of designing games is broken. People have this desire to build these awesome worlds for us to enjoy. And in too many cases that desire, and the joy that must come with it, is turning into this nightmarish scenario.
These articles, while absolutely incredible, all become depressingly similar after a while. And again, I don’t mean that as a knock on you, because I love your work and look forward to your deep inside looks.
Other than Frostbite, Bioware seemed to be their own biggest enemy on this one.
Nice job as always, Jason; thanks for confirming a lot of what we all feared. A game that was rushed out and built with a toolset that at the very least wasn’t an ideal fit. And not learning from Destiny’s missteps because they couldn’t talk about Destiny is pretty galling.
Was waiting for this. Will read later on but just wanted to say continue doing the lord’s work.
I’ve been waiting for the Schreier breakdown of how this fell apart far more than the game itself.

Here’s the real question:
What the fuck is the point of Anthem’s emotes?
You get sent back to a loading screen 10 seconds after the mission ends. Half the time, you’re running around trying to pick up any dropped loot before it ends, so people don’t congregate and hold a dance-off or anything. After several days of…
I think it stems from the fact that cosmetic options in anthem are bafflingly bad
Just proof that if you think hard enough and get creative enough, you can make anything “offensive”.
Thank you for this article. I was never vocal with my complaints about recent Bethesda releases, but I admit I was always thinking along the line of “blame the game’s engine.” Now I have a better understanding. However, I will say this: when I look at Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 in comparison to other open-world games…
While I highly appreciate your reporting and every point you make in this article is sound, that doesn’t change the fact that every Bethesda game since oblivion looks and feels like oblivion and those of us who played oblivion to the ground in 2008 are getting tired of playing oblivion for the nth time in 2018.
