The only time I’ve witnessed left foot braking is on the freeway from people who leave their left foot on the brake while driving along, resulting in the brake lights constantly shining so you can’t tell when they’re slowing down. Fuck those people.

It’s a matter of using different focal lengths - a shorter focal length exaggerates the features that are closer, and a longer focal length “flattens” the image. See this page for a visual comparison:

I like the my GTI for that reason (and the plaid seats are awesome). Its a comfortable but fun daily driver. The interior looks and feels higher quality than other comparable cars. And everyone doesn’t try to race you from a stoplight because your car looks fast.
You say bland, I say refined and classic. VW’s are relatively timeless - 10-15 year old Mk4's still look just as great as they did when they came out. The same can’t be said about some of these new “dynamically-styled” design languages...
