@appleo1990: a world without war might happen, but a world without weapons wont.

@A Flock of Smegal's: exactly, haha. he did the opposite of getting rid of them: he made them that much more deadly!

@Shinta: he isnt really planning anything, just selling them technology...

@Szin: agreed, but they get a lot more attention by exposing people to the technology with the xbox (a relatively easy application of the tech), which they will use to increase demand for the other uses. its just marketing, really.

@Morgan Carpenter: uh huh. youve lost the argument, so you resort to this little game. and you call me a kid...

@MayorBloomberg: the software for the kinect to track flailing arms didnt exist 2 years ago, either. im not saying that the kinect could do that as is, im saying that if apple had purchased the technology, thats something they possibly could have done with it.

@MayorBloomberg: because the xbox kinect is positioned about 6 to 12 feet from the people its watching, and at that range wouldnt have the resolution to read lips. if you stick it 1 to 2 feet away (like in the frame of the display on a desktop or laptop) then it would have the resolution to do so. the technology

@koxoxok: easily, apple is sitting on way more liquid money than microsoft.

@RoboticSpacePenguin: kinect can detect any and all movement, not just flailing hands. how about eye movement and lip reading replace mouse and keyboard?

@MayorBloomberg: i can imagine it easily: eye movements replace the mouse, facial gestures replace modifier buttons, lipreading replaces the keyboard. 100% buttonless computing.

@nick.seaman: nonsense. in the future most computing will be done with eye movement recognition and facial gestures (including lipreading). no more keyboards, no more mouse, no more buttons. it just makes sense.

@RoboticSpacePenguin: yeah, but thats because you cant do EVERYTHING without a keyboard. now, if facial gestures and eye movement remove the mouse, voice control (or rather, lipreading good enough that you can just mouth the words) might be more appealing.

@koxoxok: theyre rumored to be looking to buy sony.

pretty dumb of apple to let this one slip. a couple of kinect sensors flanking the built in webcam on your mac could feasibly read your eye movements well enough that you didnt need a mouse at all, letting you control the whole computer with eye and face gestures. hell, it may even be able to lip read well enough that

this is a very normal economic consequence, science frequently benefits from the fruits of more consumer-oriented enterprises ambitions.

@Morgan Carpenter: you mean my flaw of being perpetually right? or my flaw of making jokes idiots dont understand?
