What’s probably happening is that a richer fuel/air mixture is being used because a richer mixture lowers cylinder temperatures.
Turbos require more fuel per cylinder to make power. They don’t necessarily burn more fuel overall.
Because horsepower is really a measure of torque. The V8 makes more torque per revolution than the 2.7. As a result, the 2.7 must do more work to make up the difference. Unfortunately, internal combustion engines aren’t efficient, and most of the work ends up wasted in heat and exhaust.
It’s because the “driving at 43 mph and part throttle everywhere” is exactly how the EPA determines MPG. They’re just gaming the system just like everyone else.

Is nobody going to comment that this car is clearly NOT supercharged? It’s decorative, and apparently the car also now no longer has A/C as the A/C pulley has been re-purposed to “drive” the fake supercharger.
You need to buy this and report back how it is.
