No light fixtures is common in NYC rental buildings. You have to have them in the kitchen and bathroom but the rest of the apartment often uses hot switches, which are light switches connected to outlets for lamps.

The developer’s job is to make money but also to provide a certain standard of affordable housing that they currently are not.

Cringing indeed :-) I think the difference though is that people raise families in 1000sf 2bd and 3bd apts here. Most people I know who live in the suburbs or more affordable cities think that’s crazy. They all have 2500sf+.

They aren’t paying close to market value because it is low-income housing. Not because they got lucky and found a great deal.
