Actually now that I think about it I was basing the $4k/mo off of my friend’s rent. But she rented that apt during the RE crash and moved out years ago. Yeah $6k+ is more realistic for an apt like the one described if it were in Manhattan.

Exactly. At $800/mo you’d be hard pressed to find a studio in a 100 year old walk up building in Queens. Hell, even the Bronx it would be hard. Maybe Newark? I’m not even joking here.

Welcome to NYC :-)

A similar studio in a building like this (even without the dishwasher, doorman, etc) on market rate would be approx $2700/mo-range. Mind you the studios are likely 400sf (ish).

An apartment like the one you are describing in Manhattan would start at $4,000/mo and would be considered a very good deal in a building like the one you are describing. $5-$6k/mo is more likely. To put it in perspective, I pay $2700 for a 2bd/2ba co-op in a good, but not trendy part of Queens. It’s relatively big

Doormen are absolutely a luxury. As are dishwashers in NYC. I couldn’t afford to “upgrade” to one until I moved to Queens. And the lack of light fixtures are completely common in new construction nowadays. Yeah, people use floor lamps.

Huh? BK was def second fiddle to Manhattan in 2000, particularly for successful, single women. It wasn’t a destination the same way it is now by a long stretch and “hating” on BK totally fit the story line for single women of their age. Fort Greene was def gentrifying at the time but it looked nothing like now.

The first season of BH is awesome. Dinner party from hell FTW

I assume you don't already know the ending to Taylor's story...

This is true of all of the housewives series.

NJ gets dark fast. NYC and BH are generally considered the best, particularly the first 3 or so seasons of NYC (although last season was pretty great too!). Atlanta and OC are the classics but for me personally they are behind BH and NY.

I used to work in PR right out of college for a large appliance firm, which as you can imagine is largely male. At my first tradeshow I was left alone to fend for myself as my uppers went off drinking and was to pitch this product to buyers/press and yes it was all old drunk men who assumed I was “hired” for the

I had all of those dresses in 1994. Andy’s Cheepees FTW.

I’m a massive RW fan, and love the Challenges too. I was old enough to remember when the first RW aired. There’s good and bad seasons, but it all started getting REALLY bad after the most recent New Orleans episodes (around 2010).

Original NYC of course!

Nobody loses their privileges on their first accusation.

If it happens, it happens.

Corton. It was considered NYC’s 3rd best restaurant at the time.

When it comes to tasting plates at fancy restaurants, there’s usually 20+ dishes served. We joked when we went about how we would need to go to McDonald’s after dinner when our first dish was served. By dessert we were begging for the meal to finally be over, we couldn’t eat one more bite.

A few years ago my husband and I went to a very high end French gastronomy restaurant in Tribeca for our 10 year anniversary. The meal was a bit over $1,000. We did the tasting menu and I have to say, I had a similar experience to this writer. You would think everything would be delicious but in the end it was like,
