excellent idea. thanks
excellent idea. thanks
I don't get that either - I'll have to Google it.
In '68 I bought a beautiful clean and straight '56 Buick Roadmaster for $15 from a friend who had inherited it from his grandmother. He couldn't get it started because it had been sitting in a garage for years, got frustrated sold it to me. My Dad was an expert mechanic so we rebuilt the carb and the thing ran like a…
I just ordered this to replace our old Logitech Google Revue. I've been waiting for a decent replacement ever since Google & Logitech abandoned their stepchild. I'm aware of it's current limitations but I'm absolutely sure they'll all be addressed shortly. At least I'm confident it won't be abandoned. Amazon never…
Wow - thanks! THIS is is a great example of why LH is on my list of sites to read first thing every morning. Sam
When I was 9, my Dad lost just about everything because of alcohol, including my Mom in a divorce. He recovered and told me years later, 'I think that was the best time in my life: I had everything I owned in the back of a Studebaker pickup truck and I never felt freer in my life.' He went on to build a tugboat…
btw; great topic, Eric. It's actually a bit addicting to get rid of 'stuff'.
Ha! I hear ya! After deaths in our family, we had to clean out 2 of our parent's houses. They were from the Depression era, and they kept EVERYTHING! That's where we made the decision not to make anybody have to do that for us. If we haven't used it in a year or two, it's gone!
My Dad used to say, 'A guy (it was ALL about guys in the 60's/70's - sorry Gals, I didn't make that rule) should get burned out about every 5 years or so.'
great article, Eric. Now if only I can get my Wife to read it...
I'm that guy in the right-hand lane doing the speed limit. I've never had a moving violation in my life (that wasn't dismissed in court, I mean. As my dear legal secretary Mother used to say, 'an indictment is not a conviction.') I love it when somebody, usually in a VW for some reason, comes flying up and passes me…
Bill Bryson wrote a great book on this subject:
Here in WA, I know there almost 60 light planes that are presumed crashed in the Cascade Mountains and have never been found. Every few years a hiker or hunter stumbles across one. btw; As a pilot I can tell you, if your airplane goes straight into a ridge or mountainside, the chances of the ELT (Emergency Locator…
This reminds me of a question I read a long time ago that someone sent to the Playboy magazine Q&A column. He (at least I assumed it was a he) wrote: 'I would like to become a pimp. Can you tell me what it takes?' The editor's answer was memorable: 'If you have to ask what it takes, you don't have what it takes.'
Good idea - wish I'd done that. I did photo each room in an organized way (north wall, east wall, south wall... etc) during each step of the construction. The plumbing and wiring were my focus.
We recently had to have drywall in my home office replaced after a bad roof leak. Before they put the new drywall back up, I took pictures so I would know exactly what the interior layout of the walls was in case I wanted to do work later. Now, I know where studs and cross supports are, where electrical and phone…

Now I'm getting hungry ;-)
Two days late and five dollars short! I absolutely can't believe how these monster corporations can be so flat dumb handling an obvious PR disaster like this. They must have a team dedicated to this kind of thing, I sure would, so why does it take them forever (in internet terms) to make a decent move? I don't…
You left out the piano bars. While in the Army in the early 1970's, I remember my first flight on a 747 (I think United Airlines) from Seattle to Honolulu that had a full-blown piano bar with pianist on the upper deck. It was unbelievable, and I remember thinking, 'only in America'. btw; back then, the drinks were…
