My only thought when I saw that there was a Charlie’s Angels reboot was “Why?” Of course I’ve thought that about a lot of reboots and usually they don't do well. Ocean's 8 was one of those and so was that MIB International. Just write new characters in new situations and stop shoehorning basically boring characters

I don’t think this is a gender issue at all. Rather, the MCU has set the bar so high for cinematic releases that mediocre concepts are getting pounded. The previous Charlie’s Angels remake had an unremarkable plot and paper-thin characters. I daresay the Destiny’s Child theme song was a bigger hit than the film.

She really is bad at pretending this is about the Greater Good of Wanting Women to Have Things, while also blatantly making clear that this is just part of growing her business.

Not about delivering a good product. Not about trying to do anything artistic or culturally appealing or viable. Not even about making

I feel like, on a personal level, it has to do with if something interests me. I liked Captain Marvel. I still haven’t seen Wonder Woman, weirdly, but I fully intend to (long story on that one). Despite not having any care in the world for Suicide Squad or its incarnation of Harley Quinn, I am interested in Birds of

I mean yes spiderman, a long lasting property that’s never stopped existing from the moment of its conception because its a money printer has had 37 movies.. take 29.. Meanwhile CA doesn’t have anywhere the long lasting appeal or cultural relevancy of spiderman.

I never saw Charlies Angles the TV show or the 2000's movies. The only reason I would want to watch this is Kristen Stewart. I have no idea who the other two women are in the movie. I havent seen it so I cant comment on if this movie is good or not but from the trailers it looked pretty terrible.

Also Elizabeth isnt

she talks like people didnt complain about the spiderman reboot.
Amazing Spiderman was pretty despised from announcement to the death of the series. No one wanted that reboot, and it was bad.

Also, we’ve had 7 spiderman movies, not to mention, thats 3 reboots, not 7 and definitely not 37 reboots. Also, 3 of those

From what I could make out from the trailer, this version of Charlie’s Angels is made up of Kristen Stewart as a glamorous, tomboyish super-spy; a woman I’ve never seen before portraying a humorless giant; and some girl playing a scientist/waitress who happens to join the team. It just made the movie seem half-assed.

Note to Banks:

And people complain every time there’s a spider-man reboot. People just decided they were okay with it once Tom Holland turned out to be a damn good Spider-Man. I’M fucking sick of Spider-Man despite that.

The franchise was never just for women, Banks. That is one of the reasons your movie flopped - Charlie’s Angels was always trying to appeal to men too, rather than trying to make it only for women. The 2000 movie got that, and it appealed to everybody.

“You’ve had 37 Spider-Man movies and you’re not complaining!… I think women are allowed to have one or two action franchises every 17 years—I feel totally fine with that.”

I can’t recall the series well, but the previous movies were sort of campy action (comedy?) I think the original series was sort of campy fun, too. So was anyone asking for a more serious, realistic, “thriller” Angels movie? “Okay, Beverly Hills Cop, but this time no Murphy, no jokes. Just cops performing their

I'll pay money to see Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu in a theater. I won’t pay to see Kristen Stewart and her costars I can't even name. The days when people paid money to see Kristen Stewart died with Twilight.

My biggest issue was with the stars you listed, namely the last two. Who? I’d only ever heard of KStew, and she is NOT an Angel (compared to Cameron, Drew and Lucy).  Without bankable stars I don’t know how they thought this would ever make much money.

Yes we’ve had a ton of Spiderman - and Batman, and any one of those probably fared better at the box office than either of these reboots.  Keeping in the super hero theme Wonderwoman did well.  I don’t think you can compare a cheesy 70's eye-candy show remade with a more consistently lucrative superhero market.

You’ve had 37 Spider-Man movies and you’re not complaining!

First, Charlie’s Angels was in the past always for the guys not the girls.

Actually - we got two new spiderman movies because the last two were dog shit and the franchise had to get rebooted, because Sony has no fucking idea what they’re doing with the movies they make.

She has a great point, and if either film even remotely resembled the beloved tv show, I think it would have succeeded. Unfortunately, they just missed the mark on both occasions. It is also very telling that Banks viewed her target audience as young girls that liked Pitch Perfect over say, 18-30 yr old men.
