aka Google Plus integration with Youtube. Who wanted that? Nobody. I can’t even see which comment is replying to whom or follow a thread. How hard would it be to just have forum threads like Amazon does for products?

“Or what’s so wrong with honoring indiscriminate takedowns at Youtube because it’s maximally efficient (for them).”

The Forbes writer uses literary acrobatics to tell us absolutely nothing but his opinion. When you simplify the article, it sounds even more stupid.

I was hoping someone standing on such a high platform would at least enlighten us with something more than what we know about what’s really happening with Valve. I feel

The thing that gets me with Valve...and it’s not the only place this happens - is when they do something stupid, and are shocked - SHOCKED - that people reacted negatively or did stupid things with their stupid idea. And it’s obvious that people would do that!

You’d be surprised how short folks memories are.

Let’s try not to mistake Forbes’ gaming column with anything legitimate. I can’t imagine their other columnists, especially for the actual magazine, realise that section of the online site even exists.

That particular writer is all over the place, saying you buy games on the Steam Marketplace. No, no you don’t. He

Then how in the hell are people supposed to make games? Next thing you’ll be telling me is that people don’t power all the PC’s at the office using orphan hearts.

Capitalism is simply a tug-of-war match: Companies want higher prices and lower cost (quality, resources, etc.) while consumers want lower prices and higher cost (quality, resources, etc.). Then we meet in the middle somewhere by what the market at-large is willing to pay. It’s really a simple system and in the vast

I created a Steam Group called ‘Singleplayer’ back in 2007 for this exact reason -

Everyone reading this is old enough to remember 5 years ago...it was 5 years ago, not a generation back.

Fact is, they want our money in return for as little as possible as per capitalism. YAY CAPITALISM!!!

With literal definition of evil in mind, there are still a few companies out there that meet the criteria. EA Games is one of them. That is an honest-to-god “EVIL” company, both by the modern day moral definition of “evil”, and by the ancient biblical definition of evil. Anyone who can’t see that should probably learn

Moreover, Valve’s centralized marketplace has become a platform for circulating uselessness and inutility as profit, with an estimated37% of all games in a person’s Steam library having never been loaded. It’s become a tool that preys on a person’s desire to participate in the zeitgeist of a given game overriding her

I remember reading their handbook a while ago (years, maybe?). I always wondered how they got anything done in an environment like that. It seems like it would breed chaos and nothing would ever get finished. That could be why they haven’t released much in the way of their own games in a long time.

Valve once seemed to understand People, but then got caught up in numbers, and replaced people with numbers, or perhaps never knew the difference between people and number but in the early days the numbers and the people matched up with each other.

I am old enough to remember 5 years ago when Valve had all the

Great article. I think part of the problem stems from Valve’s organizational philosophy. The company is oriented around what projects the employees want to work on, not necessarily what *needs* to be worked on. I remember reading through the Valve New Employee Handbook on Kotaku some time back, and the way projects go

Data never tells the full story, paints the complete picture. You need to observe the less tangible elements as well

I think you should probably learn the definition of evil.

Let’s take a look at the Valve Handbook for New Employees, shall we?

If I remember: Gabe is also a gamer, and Valve apparently has the healthier, more enjoyable workforce compared to other major publisher/developer centers. When you have developers like Activision, EA, Ubisoft, Capcom... trying too hard to cater to making stuff just to sell instead of making it a very appreciated
