Boy, put some grizzle and a neck tat on Denny Duquette and he looks HOT.

Svetlana is fast becoming one of Shameless' great supporting characters. I hope she's in it for the long haul.

Totally agree with you on that story line. Hated it. I actually liked his character and thought there was some interesting character work to be done with Jimmy and Fiona, each fucked up in their own way, adjusting to each others' ways of life. But they did such a good job with this season that I was actually happy

You = Dumb Joel Camp. Me = Julia Camp. Ne'er the two shall meet :)

I think the "returning the same" is part of it for sure, but his diatribe last week seemed to hint at a much longer/deeper-seated frustration going back many years about the amount of time she spent at work and him quietly suffering through it. The problem is that Joe is passive aggressive and expected her to be the

As somebody who absolutely refused to watch another episode of HoL after the mid-point of the first season (and I watch a lot of crappy TV), it would take a miracle of epic proportions to get me to revisit the show even with a piece like this.

I don't know how old Liam is supposed to be, but the kid who plays him is so damn adorable that I don't even care.

I didn't realize it until this episode, but I sort of love Berto, too. He's always made me giggle a bit, but I thought it was cool that he reached out to Drew and in a reasonably believable way for his character's personality.

I thought the Julia/Mr. Knight pairing actually made total sense. Not only is it a guy she doesn't have any kind of history/baggage with (and thus is more attractive as a sexual partner), but his attraction to her seemed largely based on her prowess as a professional - he's appreciating the very thing about her that

aw come on - "everything you say is wrong" was sort of hilarious. In all seriousness, though, I think the cellphone slut shaming was only a slight dramatization of the shit that goes on with girls and cell phone all the time these days, if news articles are any indication. These scenarios are becoming all too common a

*Editing out my repetitious bullshit now that I have read further down the thread* :)

I was totally anti-Amanda for the longest time, until last night's episode. The scene at the table where they talk about his grades was really cute - they shared a look that pointed to something more than her just being his patron/babysitter/caretaker/tutor/fuckbuddy.

I just thought this week was cool with the surfing scenes, Crosby and Zeek's coastal drive, and I think the old homestead looks like what I would expect to see in a place like Berkeley (for whatever reason).

haha! shows how much I know about California! All I know is how different it feels than a show like, say, Californication.

This is one of those shows that uses its geographic setting to really great advantage. There are so many shows that seem to try to make their setting as generic as possible, but the California-ness of this show (the characters, the sets, the situations) resonates really loudly - and never as much as in this episode.

Which is pretty much what I think is going on with Mike Rowe and the Discovery Channel, since he narrates EVERYTHING (which, incidentally, is a good thing).

I'm pretty sure the comedic element of that was intentional.

When I was in college, I remember giving myself all kinds of stupid reasons not to go to class. There's something so intoxicating about going away to college and realizing that nobody is there to force you to go to class. You learn the consequences the hard way, though.

I think, in this case, they were sort of caught off guard by Max's unusually introspective reaction to how other people treat him. Normally Max seems to not really care that other people think he's different. I can imagine them returning home later and kicking themselves for not taking that tack. I'm sure it's a

I'm glad I wasn't the only one getting that vibe. I'm starting to think I am either less perverted than my AVClub compatriots, or more perverted (the more likely of the two options) and am just unable to be shocked or creeped out by sexual suggestion lol.
