These are more retro than 1999. The figures I had as a kid then were more detailed and articulated.

Cage’s new film is called Dream Scenario, not Dream Sequence

The Ultimate Universe was pitched to audiences as a more grounded, less bogged down version of classic characters with a more cinematic flair (especially in The Ultimates). A lot of readers at the time (2000-2008ish) felt that the Ulitmate Universe could be used as a blueprint for movies. The early MCU was in turn

It’s gold/bronze in the film. The implication is that it was a re-paint/re-dedication for Captain America’s sacrifice against Thanos. He is believed dead by the public at large and the statue also bears his shield in the film (possibly in place of her torch?).

Oh yes! I forgot: It cuts out while things are getting steamy between the two leads and then when it cuts back, the heroes’ base is on fire or something, everyone is beat up and there might even be new/missing characters, so as the audience, you’re just like “What happened?!” It was a great stylistic choice.

I’m definitely thinking of the “sex scene” (which I remember we get the beginning of, but then the “print burns” and there’s “Missing Reel” text) in Planet Terror, but didn’t know that about the lap dance! It’s been probably 15 years since I’ve seen either film.

They had “missing reels” but really there was no cut footage. I know Planet Terror used that effect when a sex scene was starting (the implication being that the projectionist had taken it for personal use). The home video releases are missing the interstitial trailers, though (Thanksgiving, Don’t, Werewolf Women of

Can’t say for Sin City, but Machete Kills had the the villain’s plan involve a space station. Probably better to replace “Sci-Fi” with “Genre” in the title. Although I think that would essentially encompass his entire filmography.

When Grindhouse came out, Planet Terror was pretty universally regarded as better than Death Proof. It also has a better RT score, although Letterboxd is flipped. I wonder if seeing the two movie separate of one another made a big difference versus the whole.

I always say this: Star Wars is not original. It pulls blatantly from comics, Arthurian myth, sci-fi serials, and WWII and samurai films. And I’d argue that it’s at its best when it focuses on that over trying to make a unique narrative out of its own universe.

I really do wish he would just fuck off of Star Wars forever

Immortus looked like Lo Pan from Big Trouble. that was the only one where I was like “what the...?”

Given just HOW awkward his neck/chin looks in the suit in general (and the stunts the character is performing in the trailer, despite his age), I’m wondering if the suit functions similar to the Kindom Come one, where it’s both powered armor and a medical brace apparatus.

I’m not certain where the movie premiered, but there was formerly a small theater chain in Los Angeles, Arclight, which had a full bar and no age restriction. They did of course card at the bar. Come to think of it, the AMC I used to go to also had a full bar

Typically not interested in these adaptations, but I found the Deku so irritating in the anime that I’d give this a shot

And you know, I thought this was like the one site I’d be able to visit today to not spoil myself, because I don’t think I’ve EVER seen them cover the Pokemon anime. I’ve been looking forward to this for over a year.

Yeah, and guess what dipshit? It’s the one TV show I watch. People get upset about Marvel spoilers. Do you make fun of them for it? Or any movie or show? What if you were really looking forward to the Breaking Bad finale in 2013 and someone spoiled it?

WOW you huge asshole. I’ve been watch the sub all season and was saving this for tonight, so despit io9 not covering almost ANY Pokemon stuff, espeially not the anime, you spoil right there in the title. Congratulations, you huge piece of shit.

I just recently saw F13 Part 1 for the first time and spent a sick day yesterday rewatching THOHs, so I was surprised at how on the nose that line actually was

Oh actually here’s a way better photo!
