It’s gold/bronze in the film. The implication is that it was a re-paint/re-dedication for Captain America’s sacrifice against Thanos. He is believed dead by the public at large and the statue also bears his shield in the film (possibly in place of her torch?).

Oh yes! I forgot: It cuts out while things are getting steamy between the two leads and then when it cuts back, the heroes’ base is on fire or something, everyone is beat up and there might even be new/missing characters, so as the audience, you’re just like “What happened?!” It was a great stylistic choice.

I’m definitely thinking of the “sex scene” (which I remember we get the beginning of, but then the “print burns” and there’s “Missing Reel” text) in Planet Terror, but didn’t know that about the lap dance! It’s been probably 15 years since I’ve seen either film.

They had “missing reels” but really there was no cut footage. I know Planet Terror used that effect when a sex scene was starting (the implication being that the projectionist had taken it for personal use). The home video releases are missing the interstitial trailers, though (Thanksgiving, Don’t, Werewolf Women of

Can’t say for Sin City, but Machete Kills had the the villain’s plan involve a space station. Probably better to replace “Sci-Fi” with “Genre” in the title. Although I think that would essentially encompass his entire filmography.

When Grindhouse came out, Planet Terror was pretty universally regarded as better than Death Proof. It also has a better RT score, although Letterboxd is flipped. I wonder if seeing the two movie separate of one another made a big difference versus the whole.

I’m not certain where the movie premiered, but there was formerly a small theater chain in Los Angeles, Arclight, which had a full bar and no age restriction. They did of course card at the bar. Come to think of it, the AMC I used to go to also had a full bar

I just recently saw F13 Part 1 for the first time and spent a sick day yesterday rewatching THOHs, so I was surprised at how on the nose that line actually was

I had to look this up, because I forgot if Ripley and Vasquez ever talk to each other, but the Bechdel website says Vasquez and Ferro (another woman) talk to each other about Ripley, thus passing the test.

I got my mom a pair one year for Mother’s Day and she was so mad haha. Then she started wearing them everywhere (she lives in Florida, so sandals are acceptable at most places).

Check out Oofos. They come in slip-on, thong, and clog varieties and were developed as recovery shoes for distance runners.

I’m not a gamer. This is fucking awesome!

Is that actually Mike Stoklasa?!

You actually kind of can! So Pawnee was based on the city I work in, El Segundo, CA. Two restaurants were allegedly the inspiration for JJ’s: Main Street Cafe (now unfortunately closed) and Wendy’s Place.

I’m a 30-year old man that doesn’t really game anymore (my last console was an XBox 360 that my college roommate ditched). But Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, Animal Crossing, and Pokemon S&S have really piqued my interest. I also don’t really have anyone to game with, so barring any great sales, this is something I’d

Do... Do you think that superhero stories are the only American comics? Do you think that people can only read superhero comics OR non-genre work? Oh child...

Oh Romantic-era art! I referred to Renaissance paintings, but yours is much more accurate.

I was actually shocked at how Hawkeye-centric a lot of the film seemed to be. RE: Those theater goons, it’s sad that YouTube film criticism lacks any formal education in cinema, only going for the biggest films and most surface-level, unemotional flaws.

This requires a Thor/Darryl-esque DVD extra.

It’s not like this happens in every movie screening. Opening weekend, with the biggest fans, yeah, there’s going to be a pop. Sometimes it’s annoying, sometimes it really gets you into it. You should see the audience reaction videos from India on YouTube. Hell, even my Oslo audience went crazy for the New Asgard intro.
