But EA publish valves games.
But EA publish valves games.
What? Of course it will be, when they put it into release the price will go up.
People have been doing that for years, they will reset your gamerscore :P.
They only render as many voxels as pixels there are on screen, so at 1080p 2 million voxels will be rendered.
Legal poor working conditions.
Why?
They aren't, read the article.
With the actual rendering the total voxels rendered is equal to the size of the screen in pixels, meaning the ram usage could be as small as 256kb, check my recent comments for some basic maths. However that would ONLY be for rendering, no collision/interaction etc.
There's tone of minecraft clones, some with better procedural generation, modders have also created their own procedurally generated worlds for minecraft.
Minecrafts lighting was created by the community, the same with the savegame format as notch's was really bad. The modding community also often says how notch is actually a pretty bad programmer. Having a lot of sales doesn't by any means make you good at programming.
That 400GB was assuming each voxel takes up 20 bytes right? If you take a look at the atomontage engine it has gotten voxel date (color, position, etc) down to half a bit for each voxel, yeah a bit not a byte, through multiple layers of compression, assuming this engine's compression is only half as good as that,…
Pretty useless considering they don't know how this engine works.
Notche's numbers are very bad and work on A LOT of assumptions.
Notches numbers are totally wrong, but a lot of the other stuff he talks about makes more sense.
Notches numbers assume a lot of things which simply shouldn't be true, he assumes that the way it stores them in memory is the same as minecraft.
All of this is run on the processor, no gpu is used.
Notch also assumes that he knows exactly how the engine works. For example in minecraft if there's no block in a place and it's just air, for some reason notch keeps that in memory, he also keeps EVERYTHING in the current chunk loaded in memory which is partly the reason minecraft takes up so much memory for a not…
Yeah because you're not impersonating anybody.
1,3,4,5 can all be fixed with mods, 2 and 6 can't :(.
From what I gather they only need to render the same amount of voxels as pixels there are, however I'd imagine there's a shitload of maths needed to calculate all that, so that's where the problem may lie.
