5 or 6 year loans are perfectly acceptable if you want to have the car for a long time or are purchasing something reliable or with a damn good warranty (Toyota, Honda, Kia, etc). And as someone who is fiscally smart, I would rather pay a few hundred bucks more in interest and be able to keep that extra 50 or 60 bucks

I purchased a new 2017 Fusion AWD last year. It is stupidly absurd how some dealers will talk about payment only, not the actual... out the door... price of the car. Most of them act get all upset when I break open my laptop when they start talking “mythical” numbers and I start putting them into my spreadsheet. I

I dunno if I agree with that. A 5-year loan is fine in some cases perhaps a 6-year loan could be appropriate on a high value (read: reliable) car that you plan on owning for a long time.

Here is a common scenario: A car buyer in 2016 got a zero percent APR loan on a new car that retailed $30,000 and the payments were $500 per month. That person is now back in the market but their trade value is equal to their loan payoff so it’s a wash.

Not that I recommend insanely long loans, but the best way to avoid being underwater on a loan is with a downpayment.

The rub on switching to a used car is that interest rates on used cars are usually higher than new cars.

You’re asking people to make smart, informed decisions about financing and large purchases?! People should take personal responsibility for their financial decisions?! Craziness.

I’ve long since stopped underestimating peoples’ ignorance and stupidity.  Just when you think you’ve seen it all...you haven’t.

How much more evidence do we need before we realize level 2 systems are just a really bad idea because people always find ways to abuse systems and missuse them. So far, weve just been lucky that the idiots have mainly been limiting the carnage to themselves when things do go bad. One of these times they are not going

Not surprised at all. That is why GM’s implementation of Driver motor camera makes SuperCruise superior execution than that misleading “Autopilot”

At least tint your windows if you intend to endanger all of our lives.

This is why sedans are dead in the US.

Move the lights down into the black grille, and you have a Dodge Avenger SRT-6 concept.

Can we just get rid of twitter? It doesn’t seem to have actually added any value to humanity.

In my eyes, if you want a luxury SUV from a german manufacturer (X5, Q7, whatever the big mercedes suv is called anymore), you’re almost always better off buying an American truck.

Wait, hold up. Those Chevy commercials told me they won the JD Power Most Reliable award. You mean to tell me those awards are worthless? What about those normal people and their important opinions?

lol Consumer Reports will kill a car because they can’t figure out the radio

$1750/ mo for a mortgage? Must be nice.

Wage growth (and disparity) is a definitely problem, but people buying stuff they can’t afford is the larger problem (and lenders facilitating bad choices). If no one was buying them, the average cost of a new car would come down to meet demand. Lots of people need a car, but no one “needs” to buy a new car. You can

Cars keep getting more expensive, the amount of money/loan payments are going to keep getting more expensive. The problem is wage growth not matching or exceeding consumer goods.
