Most of the viewers who would be genuinely upset by Burton getting the gig due to him being black likely weren’t watching Jeopardy on a regular basis to begin with.

Are there really that many viewers who would be upset by that? Even casual racists seem to enjoy black entertainers. It’s the very tiny minority, the Stormfront crowd, if you will, that would see it as a threat.

It’s funny that you’re saying this to recognitions, who basically argues that anyone who has anything negative to say about any woman and/or not-white person is racist and/or sexist.

He would rather that black people continue to struggle in America. It enforces his preferred narrative. Any sort of black success is a threat to his worldview.

I felt the same way about Drew Carey when they tapped him to host The Price Is Right, yet here he still is 13 years later. (I’m still not a big fan of his and think he’s too casual and mumbly for the job, but at least he’s proven it’s not a lark for him).

I’m all for it.  My only caveat is that Burton has a lot of interests and other things he does.  If he’s just doing it for a while to add it to his list of accomplishments, then it’d be better to find a good fit who plans to stick it out all the way.  Other than that, big fan of the idea.

As the site’s most stridently annoying Southland Tales fan/historian, I will say that when Justin Timberlake is doing Justin Timberlake things (starring in a music video as women fawn over him) he is very good, and when he is doing not-Justin Timberlake things (talking) he is less good.

That’s a very optimistic view of where he’s ended up.
