Maybe we shouldn’t just hand out ostensibly merit-oriented awards to those who were merely ‘decent’ simply because they died?

Why would it have been okay if he hadn’t won, if it’s the best performance he’s ever given? The whole ‘he already won once’ argument shouldn’t apply, this is supposed to be about the specific performance, not the legacy of the performer.

I understand why folks hated Green Book, but this article acts as if the Oscars are some sort of Viewer’s Choice Awards. They’re very much not. It wasn’t the audience’s call.

Am I the only one disturbed the concept of cumulative Oscars, or a dead actor being owed an award for being dead? Maybe I’m talkin’ crazy here, but I tend to think such awards should actually be about the merit of the performance or film in question. Nuts, I know.
