In a perfect world, the NFL, and any other sports league, would mete discipline in a way that is consistent with the societally accepted norms. You’re absolutely right. The NFL has a fucked-up set of morals. I’m not arguing that they don’t, just that they should have the right to punish players for off-field activities if they violate the standards that the league wishes to uphold. One would hope that those standards would be higher than what we’ve seen.

You are basing your entire comment on an inaccurate premise. The founders weren’t trying to find a Congressional compromise in order to balance states with high numbers of slaves and non-voting women. They were trying to find a compromise so that small states had out outlet for political influence.
